Travel for Tots and Teens

Family travel can be challenging under the best of circumstances.  Family travel that includes both tots and teens?  That ups the challenge ante.

Teens crave freedom, parents crave "family" time and tots, well, tots just want to have fun.  Crafting a vacation to satisfy everyone ain't easy.

Here are the top four pieces of advice gleaned from interviews with a dozen families that regularly travel with tots and teens.

First, involve everyone in the planning.  Cherie Gauthier, mom to three kids ages 3 to 24, lets everyone pick at ...

Paws Up

Some days, you just have to wake up and see something different.  Some days, you have to step away from your day-to-day to better appreciate the world around you.  To notice things you otherwise miss.  To create singularly memorable days.  This is especially critical for busy families.  And we’ve found few better places to do that than at The Resort at Paws Up.

Have your kids clamored for a camping trip, but cooking over an open fire, sleeping on the ground and washing dishes in a lake have you ...

Atlantis Has All Bases Covered

With their brand new teen space, CRUSH, Atlantis Paradise Island now has all bases covered.  You name it, it's there.

Water Park?  Check.

Kids' Club?  Check.

Restaurants?  Check.

Pools?  Check.

Beach?  Check.

A wide, wide range of accommodations?  Check.

Dolphins? Check.

Believe it or not, the list goes on.

And now, with the 2011 introduction of the new teen club CRUSH, every one is covered.

Crush, dubbed by Atlantis as the "ultimate teen nightclub," features an interactive Internet Lounge complete with multi-touch computers and surface tables with photo editing ...

Family Time at Woodloch

We recently loaded up the kids and headed to Woodloch Resort in the Poconos of Pennsylvania for a weekend adventure.  Never heard of Woodloch?  Neither had we, and we quickly found out why . . . they barely advertise.  This is because they don’t have to.  The Resort is so popular with their guests, that families come back year after year, mainly because whether the kids are tots or teens, there is something for all.

Woodloch is as traditional as it gets . . . look up “traditional family resort” in the dictionary and if ...

All Disney Aboard the New Disney Dream

Few know family travel like Disney. And it seems that they have taken all they know into account when they created their newest cruise ship, the Disney Dream. The needs of tots, teens and yup, even parents have been carefully considered.

The Dream is 40% larger than Disney’s Magic and Wonder and the stats alone impress: the Dream is 1,115 feet long with 14 decks, a crew of 1400 and the ability to accommodate 4,000 passengers in its 1250 staterooms. But it’s the Disney attention to ...

The Hamptons

Does mention of the Hamptons bring to mind celebrities and paparazzi?  Limos and luxury?  Yes, that's all there.  But there's more.

Gorgeous beaches, charming villages, terrific playgrounds, oceans, bays, inlets and lakes.  In fact, the Hamptons can be an ideal destination for families traveling with tots and teens.

"The Hamptons" refer to a chain of small towns stretching from Westhampton Beach to Montauk on the very East End of Long Island, just under two hours from New York City. Each community has a distinctive flavor and style and ...

Smuggler's Notch

My family and I were invited to visit Smuggler's Notch Resort in Vermont recently and, I have to say, it was one of the best family vacations that we have ever had. My oldest child is almost 16 and my youngest is 4 ... throw an 8 and 9 year old in the middle and you're not left with many vacation options where there are activities and experiences for the whole family to enjoy. This resort actually guarantees fun and they certainly delivered! "Smugg's" as its known by ...
