Planning our First RV Trip

Can we stay in an RV park by a lake in Maine? Can we go to Alaska instead? Oh, how about Colorado? Can we go hiking? Will we be able to drive this thing? Can we bring the dogs? Should we bring the dogs? Will there be wifi in the RV parks for my 15-year-old son? Can we arrange an itinerary so we only drive about three hours or so each day?

These were just a few of the many, many questions I had as I began planning our first RV trip this August.

With the help of our friends at Go RVing, we’ve settled on a trip to Maine, where my husband and I both spent our childhood summers. Six nights, three RV parks, a lake, a national park and not too much driving time between each campground. Here’s what our itinerary looks like:

Day 1: Pick up the RV in Boston and drive to the beautiful Beaver Dam Campground in Berwick, Maine, for two nights lakeside.

Day 3: Drive from Berwick to family-owned Smugglers Den Campground where we will set up camp a mere 20-minute walk from Echo Lake Beach in Acadia National Park.

Day 5: Head to Kennebunkport where we’ll check into the award-winning Red Apple Campground for two nights. We'll get up the next morning and perhaps order a lobster dinner to be delivered to our campsite.

Day 7: Back to Boston we go.

Okay, the RV is booked and so are our campsites! Next up - planning, packing, meals and more. Stay tuned. And, if you want to start planning your own RV trip for the summer, it's not too late! Hop over to Go RVing for lots of information to help get your planning started.
