Breckenridge Celebrates 50 Years w/ Great Events!

Macaroni Kid is giving away a 3-Night stay! Enter below

By Eric Cohen December 20, 2011

Colorado’s Breckenridge Ski Resort is turning 50 this year, and to celebrate they have some great family activities.  The resort is one of the most popular in the US with skiers and boarders and has good fun on the slopes and off.

And, Macaroni Kid has an amazing giveaway for our readers, a 3-night stay with skiing for a family of four!  Details for entry are below.

Breckenridge is centered around a historic mining town, complete with Victorian era buildings full of restaurants, shops and more.  The mountain has four peaks of skiing with slopes for everyone from beginner to super-advanced.

The season kicked off last weekend with the official 50th Anniversary celebration, and the fun keeps coming.  Next up is Ullr Fest (January 8-14, 2012).  This annual week-long celebration of Ullr (pronounced Ooh-ler), the mythical Norse God of Snow, brings to Breckenridge a legendary Main Street parade along with live entertainment, the Ullr Dating Game, a Nordic party, Ullympics and a family ice skating party. It’s a week-long zany celebration for the whole family.

2012 will be the 22nd year of the International Snow Sculpture Championships. The Sculptures "live" in the area around the Riverwalk Center grounds in the town of Breckenridge. Visitors are warmly welcomed from beginning to the end of this free event (January 24 - February 5, 2012).  Watching the artists sculpt is very cool (no pun intended). The awards ceremony is at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 29 and sculptures will remain standing weather permitting until the night of Sunday, February 5, 2012. Giving snowmen self-esteem issues for 22 years.

In February, New Orleans visitors and Mardi Gras lovers take over Breckenridge with masks, boas, beads, music and revelry to commemorate the carnival season. Breckenridge Mardi Gras will kick off in style on Friday, February 18, with its annual Bacchus Ball at Beaver Run Resort. February 18, 2012 - February 21, 2012.  For those who’ve been to New Orleans, rest assured, this version of Mardi Gras is family-friendly!

As spring rolls into the Rockies, Spring Fever hits Breck with the Spring Fever Festival from March 17, 2012 - April 05, 2012.  Spring is one of the best times of the year for skiing and riding.  No frozen noses on the little ones, kids can drop a layer of clothes and move more easily and the light is better for skiing (and great family photos).   Spring Fever at Breck is a celebration of great spring snow, sunny bluebird days, special events, and great deals throughout town for guests. Signature Spring Fever events include the Bud Light Concert Series on a specially constructed stage at the base of Peak 8, The Breck Ascent Series, the “5 Peaks” Mountaineering Race, $18.59 dining specials, a Spring Beer Festival, Easter kids festivities, the Imperial Challenge, and more.
