Dude, Where's the Ranch?

By Joyce Shulman August 14, 2012
Ah, the romance of the American West.  Cowboys shepherding cattle across the plains, cookouts under the stars, broncos bucking and cowboys singing just slightly off-key.  You kinda' can't help but feel a little tug of Americana just thinking about it.

America boasts hundreds of Dude Ranches where families just like yours can step into that American tradition and we went on a hunt to find a few of the best family-friendly dude ranches around.  And if you are anything like me, reading about them will make you itch for a week without your cellphone, the feel of your favorite old boots on your feet and the taste of a roasted marshmallow on your tongue.

And yes, that's me and my family in the photo above, in the mountains above Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
