Ever Tried to Carry a Car Seat on an Airplane?

I have always loved to travel.  If this were a movie, you would be watching a montage of me traveling all over the world.  Flashing by are pictures of me in London, Paris, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, the Greek Islands, Australia and so many more places.  The travel bug has also taken me all around our glorious country to almost every state!

So fast forward in the movie and you will see my sister-in-law and I attempting to board a flight with my then 17 and 2 month olds last November headed from Seattle to New York for her wedding.  My husband and her fiancé were flying in from work and meeting us there.  We juggled diapers, bottles, toys, and tried to figure out how to manage two “babies” plus carry the enormous car seat to our assigned row (while somehow avoiding hitting everyone seated along the aisle) then getting it strapped in while wrestling with a squirmy kid and an infant.

Believe it or not, we survived.  Barely.  My family and I did it again one month later to travel again from Seattle to New York.  As we returned from this “vacation,” my husband and I vowed to find easier travel solutions.  We had planned a trip for this summer and didn’t know how we could possibly manage TWO car seats down the aisle with a toddler and a baby plus all the extra “gear”.

I was thrilled when I was offered a CARES Child Aviation Restraint System to review.  I worked like a charm and fulfilled the necessary criteria for traveling with a squirmy toddler:

  • Safe:  CARES complies with the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) strong recommendation that every child be restrained in an appropriate manner based on size and weight.
  • Unique:  CARES is the only harness type child aviation safety restraint ever certified by the FAA for airplane travel.
  • Easy:  CARES installation is simple.  It took me less than a minute to install CARES and have my 2 year old restrained in her seat.
  • Lightweight:  CARES weighs 1 pound!  No more lugging around that bulky, heavy car seat through the airport and down the aisle.  It comes with its own little 6” sack that can be easily thrown in your carry on.
  • Strong: AmSafe Aviation is the world’s foremost manufacturer of airline seatbelts.  They use the same industrial-strength webbing as your seatbelt to create CARES!

As moms, we are always looking for the products that make life easier, better and just plain help us survive.  CARES is one of those products.  From the simplicity of packing to the ease of installation and the peace of mind it gives, CARES is a must for families traveling with children too big for your lap but too little for a normal airplane seatbelt.  CARES sells for $74.95.
