The Ice Hotel in Lapland is a magical destination for a winter holiday. Lapland is a cultural region in Finland and Sweden just to the west of the Russian border. The name Lapland refers to land inhabited by the Sami people.
A hotel made of ice you say? Yup! That's exactly what we are saying!
The ICEHOTEL, the world’s largest hotel built of ice and snow, will open on December 10th, a month earlier than usual. The building process begins in October, using walls and arches that have been stored during the summer months and a team of ice and snow sculptors, tractor drivers, electricians, lighting designers and dozens of others. Once complete, the 6,000 square foot building houses sixty guest rooms, including Art suites, Ice rooms and Snow rooms. In addition, the Ice Church will open the day before the Christmas holidays. This year's design is inspired by medieval Swedish churches.
At the ICEHOTEL, you can choose between several different types of accommodations. An ideal visit combines one cold night in ICEHOTEL with several warm nights in a hotel room or chalet.
Inside the ICEHOTEL, the temperature is never colder than -5 °C to -8 °C. Make sure you wear your thermal underwear and warm hat and slip into a bed made of ice, snow and reindeer skin . . . oh and a thermal sleeping bag as well! In the morning, you will be awakened with a cup of hot lingonberry juice at your bedside.
