Keystone, Colorado

January 19, 2011

Colorado's Keystone has much to recommend it.  It's huge, with more than 3,000 acres.  It's one of the first major resorts out of Denver, meaning a manageable 90-minute ride from the airport.  It offers a wide range of accommodations, packages and specials, making it one of the more affordable of the major ski resorts.  An extensive ski school, plenty of childcare options and several family-friendly restaurants round out the basics.

This season, Keystone's giant Snow Fort and special Kidtopia weeks make this destination special for families.

Kidtopia are several kid-centric festival weeks that deliver a full compliment of kid-friendly happenings: fireworks, disco-tubing, glowstick parades, cookie decorating, one-on-one with an avalanche dog, photos with Keystone's mascot Ripperoo, family first tracks, special movie nights and more.  Kidtopia is coming up February 18-21 and, our pick for spring skiing, March12-20.

Keystone's Snow Fort is a huge fort built entirely of snow.  It features a slide, a lookout tower, lots of carvings and plenty to climb.  Even if your kids love to ski, exploring this fort might be the highlight of their trip.

Off mountain, Keystone still takes its family activities seriously with a notable tubing hill, a huge ice rink and, of course, a spa for mom and dad.  Keystone offers a broad range of accommodations and oodles of specials.  Check their vacation deals for current offers.
