Lake House, Lake Placid

An "Authentic Adirondack Experience"

July 8, 2014
If you've never had the chance to explore the Adirondack Mountains, this summer might be the time. And the newly opened Lake House in Lake Placid is on our radar with rates starting at about $169.

With a storied history and great location, Lake House appears (we haven't visited) to be a no-nonsense, true Adirondack hotel with a storied history. This summer, guests of Lake House are welcome to enjoy oodles of activities at the Lake House's sister property The High Peaks Resort  located just across the street including:
  • birds of prey demonstration
  • sailing lessons
  • stand up paddle board lessons
  • family hikes
  • bicycle rentals
  • mountain biking lessons
  • rock climbing
  • paddling excursions
  • paddle boats, kayaks and rowboats
If you can drag the kids away from the pools, you will find a town boasting a host of cultural and (don't let the kids know) educational activities including:
  • North Elba History Museum - historical walking tour
  • Olympic Venues - bobsled rides, gondola rides, visit the top of the ski jumps, visit the site of the Miracle on Ice
  • John Brown's Farm - home of the famous abolitionist
  • US Olympic Training Center tour - one of only 3 in the US, you might even see and Olympian
  • Lake Placid Center for the Arts with programming for all ages
  • The Wild Center - just a short drive takes you to a world where you can learn all about nature and the wild. Be sure to say hi to the otters!
  • Whiteface Mountain where kids' hikes are held every week all summer
  • North Elba Horse-show grounds  with competitions from late June to early July.
Most Lake House rooms offer two double beds, so one room might be doable if your kids are small. Adjourning rooms are also available if you prefer a bit more space. With rates starting at $169, a five-night stay will run you just $845 (plus tax, etc), leaving plenty of budget left to explore the incredible Adirondack region.
