If your kids have not experienced the majesty of Niagara Falls, now is the time. One night will probably do the trick and a visit to the Falls is well paired with a few days in Toronto. And, since you are only going to be there for a night or two, spring for a Falls View Room at one of the big hotels -- your kids will never forget it.
Once you've had enough staring out the window, check out the Maid of the Mist boat ride, the giant Ferris wheel, video arcades, the Floral Clock and botanical garden.
For an even closer look, take a 17-story elevator ride down to the bottom of the Bridal Veil Falls. Here you are able to hear and feel the power of the water. Marvel at one of the world's natural wonders! Older kids may want to hike up the Hurricane Deck where they can enjoy the view and a free shower, complements of the falls. The little ones who may not be ready for the intimate view of the falls can enjoy a stroll along the bottom shores.Great information and current great deals can be found at the Niagara Falls Tourism site.
Everyone knows you can flip a coin, but did you know you could flip the falls? That's right! The Canadian side of Niagara Falls has a flip side. The cave side! Both sides offer views, but the Canadian side allows kids to literally enter the falls! In 1889 there were a series of tunnels built, that have now been upgraded and reinforced to create an experience that allows all who enter to feel and hear the power of the falls. Viewing portals and open air look outs (all safely supported and barricaded) help create a lasting memory for all.
For more information visit Canada's Niagara Falls site.If you have not yet had you fill of H20, you can try your luck with Niagara Falls Great Wolf Water Park. Entertaining children from tot to teen, Great Wolf offers 13 huge slides, 6 pools (including a wave pool), giant water fort, a lazy river and more, it's a howlin' good time for the whole family. And, as if that weren't enough, we've got a 60,000-sq.-ft. outdoor water park! (weather permitting of course) Here you are sure to quench any remaining thirst your family may have!
And if you are ready for a "dry day" we suggest family time at Old Fort Niagra! Little ones love watching the costumed soldiers fire their muskets during the demonstrations! This popular event occurs every hour. But don't think you will have to stand around bored and wait. Kids love to explore the 300-year-old fort, complete with canons, drawbridge and lighthouse! Older kids can participate in a game of capture the flag, reenacting the Garrison flag stolen by the British during the War of 1812 which was returned in 1994 and currently on display!
A family trip to Niagara Falls is a fabulous look at the wonders of mother nature and a learning experience for all. Take an extended weekend to Niagara with your family. You wont regret it!
