Go On a Frozen Adventure This Season!

By Melissa Alcorn December 9, 2014
This holiday season, thousands of families are flocking to stores in search of Queen Elsa dolls, Frozen playsets and life-sized stuffed Olaf toys. More than a year later, it seems we still have not Let It Go.

Rather than buy one more toy, why not take your family on a Frozen adventure they will never forget. Our friends at Booking.com have found the coolest (pun-intended) vacation spots that will make your family feel like they are a part of the Frozen story.

If Queen Elsa were to use her ice powers to make a hotel, it would probably look a lot like the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel in Altha, Norway. This 21,530 sq ft structure is made entirely from snow and ice every year. Reindeer leather sleeping pads and ultra-warm sleeping bags are provided in each room and a neighboring modern service building features showers, changing rooms and luggage storage. Don't forget to pack your long johns. The hotel is kept at a chilly 20-25 degrees F! Guests can warm up in an outdoor hot tub, dine at the two on-site restaurants and enjoy drinks at the ice bar where beverages are served in - you guessed it - glasses made of ice!

The Balea Ice Hotel in Cîrţişoara, Romania also features rooms and furniture made by local craftsmen completely from ice blocks. Located in the Făgăraş Mountains of Romania and accessible only by cable car, this hotel offers a variety of wintry activities including skiing, snowboarding, tubing and sleighing. An ice restaurant, ice church and ice bar offer opportunities to warm up your insides. For some family fun, the hotel also organizes fun games such as snowball fights, snowman building contests and ice bowling.

The cold won't bother you one bit when you stay in a thermal glass igloo at the Igloo Village Kakslauttanen, in Saariselka, Finland. These igloos keep guests warm and toasty amidst the freezing Artic surroundings of Finland. Each igloo pod has its own luxury beds and saunas, relaxation rooms, terraces and fireplace, all available in adjacent log cabins. Activities such as snowmobiling, dog sledding, Northern Lights bus tours, Arctic Ocean Trips, and husky and reindeer safaris make this a fun family experience fitting of Elsa and Anna.

Not quite ready for a visit to an ice hotel? Then why not head to the Det Hanseatiske Hotel in Bergen, Norway, instead to explore the real life inspiration for the Kingdom of Arendelle. The Det Hanseatiske Hotel is located in a 16th century building in the heart of Bergen. It features 37 unique rooms with centuries old timber walls, and wood and leather furniture - all of which add to the charm of the hotel and allow guests to feel as though they have stepped back in time. When you are ready to venture outside of the hotel, start your adventure with the Hanseatic Museum just next door.
