Warm it up with Your Honey: Beach Resorts Just for Couples

By Lisa Gofberg February 10, 2015
Most of us are guilty of this — not spending enough quality time with our spouse as we should. Between soccer games, dance recitals, work commitments and school assignments, often times, one-on-one time is the easiest thing to push aside.

So, we are making this easy for you. Here is a list of some fabulous beach spots that are perfect getaways for you and your honey. Now all you need to do is pick one, book it and put it on the calendar!

1. Montage Laguna Beach in Laguna Beach, CA, is located on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean and pretty much everything about it says romance. From hiking options to a quaint artsy town within walking distance, Montage gives you plenty of ways to fill up your days away from home. There is a spa that's to die for (with an adult-only pool for a little quiet time), a view you will never want to leave and amazing dining options (check out the Studio — you won't regret it!). Laguna Beach is an ideal spot for a beach-loving couple who appreciates the arts. With festivals such as Sawdust Art Festival, Festival of Arts/Pageant of the Masters and Art-A-Fair happening throughout the year, Laguna Beach is a great place to enjoy and discover artists near and far.

2. If you are looking to "go big" for this getaway, a trip to Hawaii is pretty much a guaranteed good time where you can easily forget about reality for a few days. Do something different in paradise and stay at the Volcano House Hotel located in Hawaii National Park. Not only can you have a room with a view of an active volcano, but you can experience KapohoKine Adventures' new tour, “Farm, Fork & Fire.” Guests get a behind-the-scenes look at Hamakua Mushrooms, Volcano Winery and the Volcano House restaurant by “delivering” the Volcano House’s “order” from these farms to the restaurant, getting a private demonstration by the executive chef, and then enjoying dinner incorporating the ingredients while overlooking Halemaumau crater. After dinner, stick around for a tour of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park including seeing the crater’s red glow at sunset. What a great way to really be engaged with your spouse and then reap the benefits of your day's adventures (plus a killer sunset!)

3. The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, located on Kiawah Island, South Carolina, has a couple of options for couples depending on where your interests lie. First of course, there's golf. If you and your honey are golfers, check out the Tees and Tranquility “His & Hers” Spa Package which include two rounds of golf and two spa treatments to relax with after your active day. If golf isn't your thing, aim for the Spa Romance package — think champagne, chocolates, and a couple's massage. No matter how you choose to spend your time here, it is an ideal place to reconnect as a couple as you walk the beach, enjoy great meals and just take time for each other.

4. Need a truly peaceful getaway? No kids, no crowds. Just the waves crashing around you. Sounds like a good idea to me! Southern Cross Club on Little Cayman is the ideal spot for this kind of escape for you and your spouse. Little Cayman is only 10 miles long and one mile wide so you will find a little peace and quiet here. The best part is that you can find a little adventure here too (scuba, anyone?), or you can find a hammock on the beach and just "be" with your honey. Southern Cross Club also features the only full service fishing facility on Little Cayman where a professional guide to show you the ropes (and the best fishing spots!).

5. Little Palm Island Resort and Spa, located in Little Torch Key, FL, has 30 thatched-room bungalow suites right on the water so every room has a perfect view. With no TV's and no phones here, you may think it will be a challenge to "survive," but I'm guessing 24 hours in, you won't even miss your electronics. With no one under 16 allowed, amazing beaches, and opportunities to sail, kiteboard, fish, scuba, snorkel and more, you should do just fine keeping your schedule full together. Plus, you'll be entertained by the resort's Sandbar Sessions. The Sandbar Sessions include intimate live performances on the beach (artists have included Indigo Girls, Jefferson Starship, and Lee Ritenour to name a few) with the ocean as their backdrop. What an amazing adventure for the music lovers out there! And of course, don't forget to take some of your time here with your spouse to just relax and enjoy each other.
