Mountain Trek

Ah moms.  We are masters at taking care of everyone else.  But ourselves?  Last on the list.  Here’s a way to reverse the trend: Mountain Trek.

During the one week Mountain Trek program (yes, I said one week, a whole week, seven days, an entire week away, I know, it sounds crazy), guests hike (a lot), eat delicious, nutritious food (not a lot) and learn some critical principles of health, nutrition and self care.

But perhaps the most important is the time to rest, mentally, emotionally and physically.  Hours on beautiful mountain trails.  To process.  To chat with new friends.  To decompress.  A bed to yourself.  Massages.  Sauna.  Hot tub.  Not a single dish to wash.

And did we mention an average 5 lbs weight loss?

Janice Poloway, one of Mountain Trek’s amazing hiking guides and life coaches, believes that “the most valuable gift Mountain Trek gives moms is the time and space to think.”  Umm, doesn’t that sound good?

A maximum of 16 guests enables the Mountain Trek staff to maintain its compulsive guest-centric attention to detail.  Really, they will take care of everything.  Don’t like raw onions?  Poof, they are gone from your meals for the rest of the week.  Need a more challenging (or gentle) pace on the trail?  Never a problem, a guide will accompany you at your own pace and fitness level.  Boots aren’t right?  Off to town to hunt down a replacement.  Oh, and they do your laundry.  Every day.

So here’s why you should go: because you need, and deserve, a break.  Because your family really truly can handle a week without you.  Because you are still struggling with some of that post-baby weight (I am, and my kid is 8!).  Because you will return home at the end of the week thinner, stronger and with dramatically increased vitality and, dare we say it, an unfamiliar sense of balance.  Because you will learn important things you can bring home to your family.

At $3,800/week, it is essential that you consider Mountain Trek an investment, not just a vacation.

Mountain Trek offers programs from its primary lodge in British Columbia from May through October.  More info:  www.mountaintrek.com; 1-800-661-5161
