The Meadowmere: A Home Away from Home

In Ogunquit, Maine

By Kayt DeMerchant July 14, 2015
Maine is called Vacationland for a reason. With an expansive coastline, moderate summer temperatures, and a balance of pristine wilderness and active cities and towns, Maine attracts millions of families to visit each year.

Ogunquit, Maine, is a sought-after summer destination for tourists and Mainers alike. The picturesque seacoast town boasts three and a half miles of sandy beaches as well as some rocky coast, boutique shops, an abundance of restaurants with fresh seafood, and plenty of activities for families including York’s Wild Kingdom, the Kitchen School at Stonewall Kitchen and the Ogunquit Playhouse.

With so much to offer, Ogunquit is the perfect spot for a family getaway. However, it can be costly to stay in a coastal Maine town — even if only for a weekend — in the summertime. And, when tourist season hits, it can be downright frustrating to navigate the seacoast via car. The Meadowmere Resort, a family-owned business, is a perfect spot for those looking to avoid the traffic and the expense of a typical Maine summer vacation.

The Meadowmere is a large but cozy resort situated right in the heart of Ogunquit. Boutique shopping and restaurants, the quaint area of Perkins Cove, an amazing view from the Marginal Way walking path and Ogunquit Beach are all within an easy walk or trolley ride from the resort.

And since The Meadowmere is family-owned, guests will note the difference from a chain hotel. Guests are treated as a part of the family during their stay. It’s not unusual to see families gathering in one of the living rooms throughout the resort or at the arcade or one of the pools. You may even see a family playing a board game in their pajamas in one of the common rooms before bedtime. The buffet breakfast offered during the summer season has all the family favorites and the hotel's signature red wagons can be checked out to carry beach gear (or to carry the kids). The staff is incredibly friendly and you’re likely to meet up with one of the owners during your stay. Several family members own other businesses nearby including the Cornerstone restaurant — a great spot for artisanal pizza and microbrews.

While the gorgeous town of Ogunquit will draw you in with endless options for activity and sweet oceanside spots for rest and relaxation, The Meadowmere resort can truly be a home away from home at the end of a busy (or lazy) day. With an indoor and outdoor pool, a theater showing two films a night (one for kids, one for adults), an arcade, a 6,200 square-foot fitness center, day spa, sauna and pub on site — guests will feel quite content. A favorite spot is the Roman Bath — water is at body temperature and the therapeutic water falls and swirling jets will lull you into complete relaxation—it’s a perfect pick right before bed.

The Meadowmere hosts several vacation packages throughout the year and many are an exceptional value. The resort offers a great spot for tourists looking to be treated as family.
