I recently had the opportunity to spend four days with a group of amazing women while simultaneously feeding my skiing addiction at Retreat Yourself 2010.  Seriously, it doesn’t get better than that.

 

Founded by pro-snowboarder and North Face athlete Megan Pischke-Porcheron, Retreat Yourself is the realization of a long-time dream.  “Snow-boarding has given me so many opportunities.  I’ve been blessed to have been able to do what I love surrounded by such good friends and I have long wanted to find a way to give back.”  A relatively new mom, Megan discovered that the balance of motherhood and self is a challenge because “moms dedicate every inch of themselves to their family.”  Propelled by the desire to share the freedom and joy of the mountains with other women, Megan enlisted the help of others in the outdoor community including pro-snowboarder Barrett Christy-Cummins and pro-skier Kasha Rigby.  An affiliation with Boarding for Breast Cancer peppered the group with breast cancer warriors.

 

Mornings began with yoga led by the fabulous Amy Baker, thank you Amy for grounding our days, challenging our bodies and reminding us that the gal with her foot behind her ear is no closer to enlightenment than we are.  Following yoga, our very full days included breakfast, on-mountain ski and snowboard instruction, very special lunches and the wisdom of a wonderful, quirky, funny, inspiring life-coach-healer-tarot-card reader Linda Kennoy.  An evening benefit for Boarding for Breast Cancer was sort of benefit meets sorority meets spa day.  With wine.  Ridiculously fun.

 

Home base was the brand new Osprey, a RockResort with a cozy boutique feel, excellent service and maybe the world’s most comfortable beds.

 

For me, Retreat Yourself was the perfect way to start the new decade, in the mountains, doing what I love, challenging my body and connecting with the wisdom of nature and new friends.
