Smuggler's Notch

By Susan Pazera April 12, 2011
My family and I were invited to visit Smuggler's Notch Resort in Vermont recently and, I have to say, it was one of the best family vacations that we have ever had. My oldest child is almost 16 and my youngest is 4 ... throw an 8 and 9 year old in the middle and you're not left with many vacation options where there are activities and experiences for the whole family to enjoy. This resort actually guarantees fun and they certainly delivered! "Smugg's" as its known by those who love it provided all of us with so much to do and see that we couldn't fit it all in! Breathtaking mountains, great lodging accommodations, kids programs, teen programs, top-notch restaurants ... you name it, they've got it!
Each of my children really enjoyed the ski/snowboard instruction program. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous leaving my 4 year old for the day but, the staff was amazing and the program was extremely organized and well run. She had a terrific day and couldn't wait to go back the following day. The ski instruction included  indoor play as well with movies, craft centers, and even a science show! Have a little one too young for the slopes? No problem! Just drop your munchkin off at Treasure's, Smugg's state of the art Child Care Center. Children ages 6 weeks to 3 years can enjoy time in this 5,400 square foot wonderland. Giant fish tanks in every room, a multitude of age-appropriate toys, tiny toilets and small sinks, and a large outdoor playground make it a perfect place for your children while you have some Mom/Dad time out on the mountain.

The Fun Zone, Smuggler's Notch indoor recreation center, was a hit with the whole gang! The Fun Zone is exactly that...ping pong tables, an arcade, bounce house, and a HUGE double lane slide! Lots to do and something for everyone.   My older children and husband were thrilled to experience the Arbor Trek Zip line canopy tour, the newest addition to Smugg's attractions. The Tour follows a mountain brook from high above Smugglers' Notch Resort Village. The 2 1/2 to 3-hour Zipline Canopy Tour descends through mature stands of hemlock, white birch, and sugar maple. You'll soar down more than 4,000 feet of zip lines, cross sky bridges, and rappel from trees. There is a minimum weight requirement (70lbs) but, there is a tandem option with an instructor for those that don't meet it.
Smuggler's Notch Resort is open year round and offers just as much fun and adventure in the spring and summer as it does during the ski season. There's canoeing and kayaking, climbing, a water park, 8 heated pools, tennis, golf,  and much much more! Every member of your family will discover plenty of ways to have an unforgettable vacation!
