Cedar Point

By Kelly Tarkany August 9, 2011

Looking for an amusement park that will entertain the entire family? Cedar Point has more rides than any park in the world! Consistently rated the Best Amusement Park in the World, Cedar Point will amaze kids and adults of all ages. Cedar Point is a clean, pretty park located in Sandusky, Ohio on a peninsula jutting into Lake Erie.

Cedar Point offers four special areas designed for young families with many entertaining rides for junior riders. Our kids love Planet Snoopy, an area with seven Peanuts-themed rides including 4 x 4 monster trucks that the kids can drive while a parent rides in the back. Snoopy and the gang visit the park every day! Camp Snoopy is home to fun-filled rides and attractions, including the Camp Snoopy Theatre, where kids can sing and dance with the Peanuts gang. Kiddie Kingdom offers 13 exciting rides for young children including mustangs, police cars, dune buggies, sir rub-a-dub’s tubs and krazy kars (bumper cars or as my son likes to call them, “crash ‘em cars”). The Gemini Children’s Area includes five rides that are great for mini thrill-seekers of all sizes.

The majority of children’s activities are located near the front of the park. However, there are so many cool things to see at the park that we like to bring umbrella strollers in case we need them. You can board strollers while enjoying a scenic ride on the Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad. It’s easy to spend a full day or two at the park exploring all the fun activities, award winning shows and of course, the rides. A small petting zoo is located towards the back of the park.

Cedar Point is the place to be for anyone looking for an adrenalin rush. Many of the coasters provide spectacular views of Lake Erie. The Top Thrill Dragster and Millennium Force are among the fastest and tallest roller coasters in the world. The Millenium Force was built in 2000 and was the first coaster in the world to top the 30-story-tall threshold. I find it to be absolutely terrifying but coaster enthusiasts would disagree! My favorite coaster is the Raptor. The Raptor has seats similar to a ski lift so your legs dangle in the air as you are flipped upside down six times at a speed of around 57 mph. It’s a smooth ride with a very short line.

New to Cedar Point this year, the WindSeeker is a 301-foot-tall tower that spins riders nearly 30 stories above the Lake Erie shoreline. While flaring out almost 45 degrees from the tower, the swing can reach speeds of up to 30 mph!

Cedar Point presents several live shows throughout the day. Everyone Loves Snoopy is a great show with fun songs, dancing, ice skating and Snoopy characters! The Starlight Experience is shown at twilight on days when the park closes at 10 p.m. or later. The whole family will enjoy the music and over one million lights!

We like to take a break from the heat and grab lunch at the air conditioned Joe Cool Cafe. The restaurant is cheerful with Peanuts characters adorning the walls and special Peanuts tv shows playing to entertain the kids. The restaurant serves pizza, mac and cheese, salad, chicken fingers and a sandwiches (it’s a little pricey but younger children love the atmosphere). Chick-fil-A, Johnny Rockets, the Midway Market, Subway and Pink’s, a Hollywood legend that serves world-famous steamed, all-beef hot dogs and chili dogs, are just a few of the many restaurant options at Cedar Point. The Hot Potato has delicious fresh-cut french fries! Another favorite is the caramel apple wedges available at Engine House Custard located in Frontiertown. Snacks are located throughout the park. You won’t have to walk far to find frozen treats, nachos, popcorn or cotton candy. Visit Sweets ‘n Treats before you leave the park to pick up taffy. Cedar Point taffy is legendary! Make sure it’s your last stop so it doesn’t melt before you reach your car

Cedar Point is also home to a water park, Soak City, with over a dozen water slides, a family raft ride, wave pool, Splash Zone play area and two inner tube rivers. There is a separate fee for Soak City.
