Step Into the Old West at the Grand Canyon Ranch

By Melissa Alcorn August 14, 2012
Almost 5 million people visit the Grand Canyon each year.  Two hundred and seventy-seven miles long, up to eighteen miles wide and with a depth of over a mile, the Grand Canyon is one of the most awe-inspiring natural attractions in the United States.  It is no wonder that so many people make room for it on their family vacation bucket list.

Instead of just a quick trip to see the Canyon, enjoy a stay at the Grand Canyon Ranch Resort in Meadview, Arizona, where you can take in the sights of the Grand Canyon while experiencing genuine Wild West history.  Located on the west rim of the Grand Canyon, the ranch has a rich western history preserved and shared by ranch staff.  Learn about the Native Americans who practiced their ritual ghost dance on the land, and Tap Duncan, famous gunfighter, who settled on the ranch after his time with the real Hole in the Wall Gang.

Guests can hear stories and tales of the past during the Ranch's buffalo safaris, guided horseback rides, and overnight campouts.  Other entertainment includes nightly live western musicians, Cowboy poetry, wagon rides, and more.  Send the kids on a mission to spot some of the 180 species of animals, including deer, golden eagles and mountain lions, that have been catalogued on the ranch.  The old west will come to life with western rodeo demonstrations featuring real cowboys.

If looking out at the Grand Canyon is thrilling, imagine what it is like fly through it.  The Grand Canyon Ranch Resort offers thrill seekers the opportunity to fly into the depths of the Grand Canyon by helicopter.  Learn about the history and geology of the Canyon while you fly 1,500 feet below its rim.

Catch your breath during the evening campfire where you can roast marshmallows before heading to bed in your genuine pine cabin or authentic Indian Tipi.  Yes, we said Tipi!  Tipi sleepovers are available seasonally (March 15 through November 15) and cabin stays are available year round.
