Santa Claus is coming to town! If your kids are counting down the days until he arrives, they will love tracking his journey around the globe with these two great sites:
Thanks to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), your family can track his location and follow along as he travels from the North Pole to the homes of millions delivering presents on Christmas Eve.
For more than 50 years, NORAD and its predecessor CONAD (the Continental Air Defense Command) have been tracking Santa's flight. With a radar and satellite system, volunteers at the NORAD Tracks Santa program detect heat from Santa's sleigh and Rudolph's bright red nose and give children real time updates on his location.
The tradition began when a Sears advertisement misprinted a telephone number for children to call Santa. Instead of reaching the "Sears Santa," the phone number reached CONAD. The Director of Operations and staff checked the radar for indication of Santa and thus started a tradition that has continued every year.
Right now, Santa is busy at the North Pole making his list (and checking it twice!), but soon he and the reindeer will be taking flight. Visit www.noradsanta.org to track him this Christmas Eve. You can also play fun games, watch movies about Santa and Norad, listen to holiday music and more.
It's not quite Christmas yet, but that doesn't mean the fun can't start now! Count down to Santa's big night with the Google Santa Tracker. New games or scenes in Santa's Workshop are unlocked each day leading up to Christmas Eve when Santa's dashboard is unlocked. Kids can then track Santa as he travels around the world.
Until then, explore the village, learn about holiday traditions around the world, meet some friendly elves, and complete some holiday-themed games and activities (like getting Santa ready for a selfie!).
