Family Adventure in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

By Rebecca Plaisance November 8, 2016
Cabo San Lucas Mexico, located at the tip of the Baja, Peninsula, offers active families a vacation of a lifetime. This beautiful destination is easily accessed from all major airports and offers warm temperatures year round.

Where to stay to be in the heart of the action
Check out Marina Fiesta Resort and Spa. This all suite resort offers adventure seekers access to water and land activities. With a full service spa, fantastic gym with a spectacular view and access to the Gold Zone restaurants, this is a great choice.

We love Marina Fiesta Resort and Spa for their huge rooms with kitchenettes and junior suites offering full kitchens, two bathrooms and even a dining room. The rooms are big enough to accommodate large families and parents have the option to keep food in the room, perfect for a quick breakfast or lunch. Access to a microwave and small stove top is icing on the cake! The refrigerator is also stocked daily with cold water, sodas and beer.

All-inclusive options are also available. One of the perks of an all-inclusive vacation at Marina Fiesta is access to all the great restaurants in the Golden Zone, which means you're not stuck eating at the same place every night. Instead, you have five restaurants to choose from, each conveniently located right in the marina area. Guests are also able to indulge at the restaurants on the sister property, Hacienda Encantada.

The pool is perfect for adults and children, with plenty of space for everyone. There's a full-service swim-up bar, as well as a full dining menu that is served at the pool. And don't miss the rooftop Jacuzzi, delivering stunning views of gorgeous sunsets each night.

Location is key at the Marina Fiesta Resort and Spa, as this gated property is located right on the marina which gives its guest incredible access to all that Cabo has to offer. Fishing, glass bottom boat tours, incredible snorkeling and other water sports are within steps of your room, as are shopping and the beach. A shuttle is also provided for guests who would like to spend the day at the Hacienda Encantada.

Tips for staying at the Marina Fiesta Resort and Spa:
  • If you have a little one who's going to need to nap, ask for a room that doesn't face the pool. The pool closes at 8 PM so the noise will not be a problem for people with older children, but families with younger kids may find the pool noisy during the day.
  • Take advantage of the all-inclusive program. The access to the golden zone restaurants and drinks makes it a better option for families. Personally, I find vacation to be more relaxing when I don't have to pull out my wallet at every stop.
  • Treat yourself to the spa! The spa at the Marina Fiesta is beautiful, relaxing and offers a wide variety of services. Don’t miss the hot stone massage!
  • Check out the Arc, an iconic image of Cabo located just a short boat ride away.  The views are incredible up close and the kids will love seeing all the sea lions that hang out in the area. If you hit Cabo during the right season you'll even see pods of whales. Dolphins and beautiful fish abound in the Pacific and Sea of Cortez. If you're traveling with the older kids this is a great place to introduce them to snorkeling.  The water is clear and calm and the fish are plentiful. This is the fourth time I've gone snorkeling and I've never seen so many fish in one place.

Where to stay for a quieter vacation

Hacienda Encantada, the sister property of Marina Fiesta, is located on the edge of the ocean. This all-inclusive resort has 221 rooms and stunning views.

We love Hacienda Encantada because it's built for families. The suites are spacious and also offer kitchenettes. You'll also find penthouse suites with three bedrooms, living room, dining room and chef’s kitchen. And, if you're ready to completely indulge, stay in one of the Residences, which are magnificent three-bedroom villas.

Hacienda Encantada has 5 restaurants on site offering pizza, tacos, poolside snacks and more upscale options including sushi and local Mexican cuisine. There are 6 pools on property, including adult only pools.
Other amenities at the resort include onsite laundry, babysitting, a spa, basketball courts, tennis courts and pickleball courts. Hacienda Encantada is a full service resort, so you'll never need to leave. However, you can grab transportation to the Marina Fiesta and take advantage of the marina area.

Tips for your stay at Hacienda Encantada:
  • Have a meal by the pool. Kids will love laying in one of the plentiful hammocks near the pool enjoying pizza from Il Forno.
  • Hit the firepit! 5:30 is the time to head over for tacos and tequila.
  • Pick a room that suits your family. The property is large, so families with younger children may want to stay closer to the pools.
Looking for more adventure while you’re in Cabo San Lucas? Book a day with Cabo Adventures who offers a wide variety of experiences that will appeal to families with kids of all ages. Adventures range from camel riding to swimming with dolphins. The tours are well run and very family friendly. Kids will love the jeep rides through the desert, snorkeling in the mild Sea of Cortez and swimming with whale sharks (available only certain times of the year).
