Family Travel with Fido: Pet-Friendly Ski Resorts

Want to hit the slopes with your pup? These 20+ hotels, located across the country, will welcome both you and Fido for a family vacation.

California

Harveys Lake Tahoe, South Lake Tahoe, California
Harveys Lake Tahoe welcomes pets with special amenities, including food bowls, gourmet treats and a small lawn where Fido will feel at home when taking care of business. Surrounded by the stately Sierra Nevada mountains, Harveys Lake Tahoe offers dogs and their human companions a cozy retreat on Lake Tahoe’s picturesque south shore. Dine with your dog at nearby McP’s Taphouse, which offers pet-friendly outdoor dining year-round with outdoor heaters for a relaxing meal together.

Northstar at Tahoe, Lake Tahoe, California
Bring your dog to the mountain for the monthly Moonlight Snowshoe Tours. Your leashed pup is welcome to join you on the 2.5-hour snowshoe hike and then enjoy music, s’mores and hot chocolate around a fire pit. While leashed pups are allowed on the Northstar property and in the Village at Northstar, they are not permitted in the lodging units at Northstar or on the mountain during the winter. Four-legged friends are welcome to ride the Gondola and hike with guests in the Mountain Biking & Hiking Park during summer months.


Colorado

Mountain Chalet Aspen, Aspen, Colorado
Located in the heart of the snowy mountains of Aspen, Colorado, Mountain Chalet Aspen can be your home away from home during your snowy mountain vacation. Just a five-minute walk from the hotel is Meat & Cheese, a pup-friendly restaurant where your whole family can dine after a busy day on the slopes. 

Ritz-Carlton at Bachelor Gulch, Beaver Creek, Colorado
This resort offers a plethora of dog-friendly activities and presents each guest with a dog packet at check-in. Dogs are given an overstuffed dog bed, logoed dog bowl, gourmet treats, and ‘Pet in Room’ sign for use during their stay. The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch also provides luxurious services like in-room massage, dog-friendly guided snowshoe tours with a Naturalist, and doggie room service. Pets are allowed in the resort lobby, guest rooms, and the outdoor patios at the on-site WYLD and Buffalos restaurants.

The Inn at Keystone, Keystone, Colorado
Dogs are welcomed at this resort with a bag of treats and a copy of Fido Magazine. "Yappy Hour” takes place in the lobby bar during afternoons when dogs are welcome to lounge by the fireplace while you enjoy a cocktail and nosh on bar bites. Trails are located behind the hotel and dogs are welcome on-mountain for uphill travel on a leash outside of operating hours.

Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Tabernash, Colorado
Located just outside of Winter Park, Devil’s Thumb Ranch is a luxury resort that boasts two gourmet restaurants, a full-service spa and some of the best Nordic trails in North America. Fido will be welcomed with a dog bed, homemade treat and leash to use while exploring the 6,000-acre property. If you’d like to give skijoring a try, Louisa Morrissey of Skijor-n-More/High Country Dogs offers private lessons and workshops back at the resort. Start with an indoor session on training tips and dog care before heading out on the snow for a hands-on lesson on basic commands and techniques, fun for all vacationers!

Mountain Lodge at Telluride, Telluride, Colorado
Mountain Lodge at Telluride – tucked in between two ski trails – provides plenty of fun for the whole family, including pets. Ride the picturesque, pet-friendly gondola into town or hike one of four national parks located near Mountain Lodge. 

Four Seasons Hotel Vail, Vail, Colorado
The Four Seasons Hotel Vail offers a luxurious stay for you and Fido. Pups are greeted immediately at the valet and in their rooms with treats and a water bowl. Head out for some fun at Vail’s Stephens Park, which allows dogs to play off-leash on trails. Later, head over to Bart & Yeti’s, where famous patrons like Gerald Ford and Clint Eastwood have enjoyed the pet-friendly dining atmosphere with their dogs!


Idaho

Best Western Tyrolean Lodge, Ketchum, Idaho
The pet-friendly Best Western Tyrolean Lodge gives you a breathtaking view of the majestic Bald Mountain of the Sun Valley/Ketchum area and a convenient location to the slopes. Upon arrival, your dog will be greeted with his very own blanket and treat. Stretch your pup's legs with a five-minute stroll to the heart of downtown Ketchum to enjoy nightlife, shopping, and more. While you’re out, stop by Rico’s Authentic Italian restaurant, where dogs are welcome to relax on the patio while your family enjoys authentic pizza and hearty pasta dishes.


Maryland

Savage River Lodge, Frostburg, Maryland
Welcome to the Savage River Lodge, Maryland’s doggie paradise! Located within the 700-acre Savage River State Forest, the lodge provides a peaceful oasis from the distractions of daily life. Enjoy a winter escape on the cross-country ski trails, or take a snowshoe expedition with Fido by your side. Your dog will have a vacation to remember with the acres of outdoor fun, daily homemade dog biscuits, and specialties like canine casserole and mutt meatballs from the “Bone Appetit” menu. Special pet packages that include doggie goodie baskets and gifts are also available.


Montana

Bucks T4 Lodge, Big Sky, Montana
Seated on Big Sky in Montana, Bucks T4 Lodge is the place to stay during your winter getaway! Take a ride on the Lone Peak Tram, try your hand at dog sledding or enjoy the surrounding snowmobile trails to catch extraordinary views of Montana’s backcountry at one of the best ski destinations in America. Later, relax at the nearby pet-friendly Beehive Basin Brewery, where leashed dogs are welcome inside the taproom.


Nevada

Mount Charleston Lodge, Las Vegas, Nevada
Located less than an hour’s drive from downtown Las Vegas, Nevada’s Mount Charleston offers the chance to explore over 50 miles of hiking trails with snow on the mountains from November to April. After a long day of hiking, Fido will be happy to come home to a cozy cabin at the Mount Charleston Lodge and play in the fluffy snow.


New Hampshire

Bartlett Inn, Bartlett, New Hampshire
Skijoring is a winter adventure not to be missed at Muddy Paw Sled Dog Kennel, where an experienced staff will help you and your pup learn to work together as a team to cross-country ski through the snow. After a full day of skijoring, sleep in a cozy cottage with a fireplace and enjoy a hearty breakfast the next morning.

White Mountain Hotel and Resort, North Conway, New Hampshire
The White Mountain Hotel and Resort welcomes dogs with its “Bed and a Bone Club,” providing each furry guest with a food and water bowl, organic dog treats, chew toy and more to keep busy while you visit the nearby ski resorts at Cranmore Mountain. For an adventure with your dog, head down to Cigar Shenanigans cigar bar, where leashed dogs are permitted inside. Back at the hotel, your dog will also enjoy meeting the resort’s resident Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, “Tullamore (Tully) O’Sullivan,” named after the in-house Tullamore Tavern. A special dog path and dog wash station are also part of the pet-friendly amenities at White Mountain.


New York

Lake Placid Summit Hotel Resort, Lake Placid, New York
Lake Placid Summit Hotel Resort welcomes families and their four-legged friends to a beautiful first class hotel located in Lake Placid, New York – part of the six million acre Adirondack State Park. Bring Fido for a walk down Main Street, trek through the snow on one of 46 peaks in the area, fly down the 30-foot-high toboggan chute or ride the gondola up Whiteface Mountain while taking in the beautiful, frosted summit views. North Carolina

Tennessee
