The Best Pit Stop for Your Holiday Travels

I still remember being in my early 20s and deciding with my now-husband to take a last-minute long-weekend road trip to Florida with his sister and her husband. We drove straight through from our home in Pennsylvania, leaving at dinner time and arriving in Florida by the next afternoon. We’d left behind the cold and snow for sunshine and warmth.

Those days of impulsive road tripping are gone and now replaced with family vacations with our two children. You know the ones where you plan what movies or games you’ll use for entertainment on the trip, shop for some favorite snacks, and even think about how far you can drive between bathroom breaks.

Speaking of bathrooms… as you prepare to hit the road for the holidays, look to see if there’s a TA or Petro Stopping Centers along your journey. It’s a pit stop that is worth more than just that bathroom break!

As we travel along Interstate 81 to visit my parents, there is a Petro Stopping Center near Scranton where we always stop. I’d actually describe their restrooms as inviting. They are clean, bright, smell fresh, and even have cute decorations on the sink. So it was no surprise to me when I heard that these centers were voted “Cleanest Restrooms” during a 2016 Professional Driver Survey.

On my way back from the restroom, I can't believe all the terrific snack choices and find my husband trying to choose his coffee flavor. Along with the much-needed snack for a cranky child and a coffee pick-me-up for the adults, you won’t believe the great gift selection you’ll find at these centers.

Gift ideas include assorted pillows, throws, and blankets, As Seen On TV items, fabulous jewelry (they’ll never believe where you bought it!), clothing, and even fun electronics like portable speakers.

Don’t miss the "Quick Pick" grab-and-go items hand-selected by the managers. All priced under $1, these can make great stocking stuffers too!

And, because we know that along with holidays and cold weather come germs, you’ll be happy to know that the centers carry cold and cough medicines for both kids and adults.

Take a few minutes to find the nearest travel center along the way on your next family trip. I promise everyone in your vehicle will be happy you did!
