Mountain Thunder Lodge at Breckenridge

By Eric Cohen October 10, 2018

The original Macaroni Kid, my oldest son, is now a senior in High School and looking at colleges. One of his top choices is the University of Colorado, far from home. While I'm dreading his leaving, his going to school in Colorado would have some perks. To test things out, we visited the school last winter, and then drove up to Breckenridge for some skiing.

We were delighted to discover the Mountain Thunder Lodge, a hidden lodging gem. The property is tucked away among the homes and condos of fabulous Breckenridge, a great location. Just a short stroll to the gondola gets you to the slopes, and you can ski right back to the lodge. It's also just a few blocks from town and all the shopping and dining options.

The lodging is all condos, ranging from studios to three-bedrooms, with fully equipped kitchens and all the comforts of home. For these two bachelors it meant cooking up a huge breakfast with bacon and eggs, and then having nice plates on which to serve our pizza delivery. There are five hot tubs around the property and one came in quite handy after our hard day of skiing with a Guide at Breckenridge.

While I may not want my son to be so far away at school, I can think of the perfect consolation when I go to visit him next year. (We were hosted by Vail Resorts for the purposes of this review)
