Did you have any idea that there are over 400 fantastic national parks scattered across the country? Some are well known, some not so much. You may have a hidden gem just around the corner from your house!
Celebrate the country's national parks during National Park Week April 22-30. One more reason to celebrate? Entrance fees are waived on the first day of National Park Week, so let's get out there and enjoy our national treasures!
To celebrate National Park Week, we asked our Macaroni KID publishers to share their favorite memories at national parks. Here are just a few of the images they shared:
The Grand Canyon
Julie Dikken, the Colorado publisher of Macaroni KID Evergreen - Bailey - Conifer and Macaroni KID Arvada-Wheat Ridge-Golden, and her family visited the Grand Canyon. They were blown away by the picture-perfect Horseshoe Bend:
Parks, memorials, and more
There are 25 parks, memorials, and other historically important locations in Washington D.C. — from the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial to the President's Park, where the White House sits — designated as national parks. Macaroni KID Burlington-Hillsborough, N.C., publisher Samantha Earnhardt and her family were among the 15 million annual visitors who took in the sites of D.C.:
Badlands National Park
Sara Yaniga, publisher of Macaroni KID Chicago Midtown, had some magical moments with her family at the Badlands in South Dakota:
Acadia National Park
Whitney Marvin, publisher of Macaroni KID Crawford - Meadville, Pa., and her husband took their baby to explore the magical Acadia National Park:
Assateague Island National Seashore
Kat Dinsmore, the publisher of Macaroni KID Harrisburg and West Shore, Pa., visited Assateague Island National Seashore in Maryland, where a park ranger welcomed her children by swearing them into the junior ranger program. Many national parks offer young visitors the opportunity to join the National Park Service "family" as Junior Rangers.
