National Burger Day is coming up Thursday, May 28, 2026, and it’s usually one of the best fast food freebie days of the year. Burger chains love this holiday, and we’re already seeing free burger offers, app deals, discounted meals, and limited-time promos starting to roll out.

This is usually one of the better food freebie days of the year. Burger chains love National Burger Day, and last year brought everything from penny burgers to app deals and giveaway promos.
- Burger King — Royal Perks members can get a free hamburger with any $3+ purchase on May 28, 2026, through the Burger King app or website.
- Ruby Tuesday—On Thursday, May 28, Ruby Tuesday is offering a single American Smashed Burger with fries or tots plus unlimited Garden Bar for $8.99.
- Jack in the Box— $1 hamburgers on May 28 after 2 p.m. in-store and online, with a limit of five hamburgers per order,
- Whataburger — On May 28, Whataburger Rewards members who order a medium Fry and medium Drink online or scan the app in-store get a free Whataburger and are entered for a chance to win Whataburger for a Year.
- Checker's — Buy One, Get One Free deal on its Classic Burger May 27 & 28
- Rally's — Buy One, Get One Free deal on its Classic Burger May 27 & 28
- Smashburger — Any single burger for $5.28 on May 28 only. Use code 528SINGLE online/app or mention the deal in-store at participating locations.
- Sonic —SONIC Rewards members can get a free SONIC Smasher or All-American Smasher with a $5 purchase through the SONIC App through May 31.
- Shake Shack — Each week in May, Shake Shack is offering a different Shake Shack single burger for free with a $10 minimum purchase.
- Wayback Burgers — $5 classic burgers on May 28. Limit two per order.
- Dairy Queen — $1 off any Signature Stackburger for DQ Rewards members, May 25–31, 2026. Redeem in the DQ Mobile App or online at participating locations.
- Farmer Boys — VIF members get a $3.99 Big Cheese on May 28. Participation/pricing may vary by location.
